Comments/Question:

Fixed-pane windows will not open.

1 window

Single or double hung windows like that on the left are, perhaps, the most common type of window.

1 window, 1 track

Note: A standard sized screen will fit over the bottom pane. If both panes are covered with 1 extra large screen, or each pane is covered with a screen, you will have 2 screens.

Awning windows swing open like casements, but are hinged on the bottom rather than on the side. Some swing inward, others swing outward. This picture shows an awning pane under a fixed-pane, and would be counted as 2 windows, 1 track.

Casement windows open with cranks or levers that open them like doors.

A casement window like this one shown is 2 windows, 2 tracks.

Sliding windows have sashes that move horizontally on a track. Unless each window pane is smaller than 24" by 24" this is 2 windows, 2 tracks.

Note: If this were a sliding glass door, we would have 2 windows, 2 tracks.

A traditional Bay Window is constructed of a large center picture window that doesn't open with double hung windows on each side.

In this example, we have 3 windows, 2 tracks.

Palladian windows are half-domed windows on top of other windows or doors. They are listed separately and count as 1 window.

The French window has munton strips that greatly obstruct efficient cleaning. They often leak onto a finished pane below them. Each divider as well as each pane of glass must be cleaned separately. Not all window washers will do them. It will help the bidding process if you can note the number of panes in a French window like this -

1 French window, 12 panes, 1 track

Glass louvers that overlap one another form the panes of a Jalousie Window. Operated with a crank or turn-screw, the glass louvers tilt to open. This window would be called "1 Jalousie".

Please note the number of window slats. This one has 11 window slats.

Roll-out windows are similar to jalousie windows although the number of panes in a roll-out window are fewer in number, the individual panes are larger, and each pane is encased in a frame.

This example is "1 Roll-out - 3 panes".
